Mustapha Ishak-Boushaki is an Algerian theoretical physicist, cosmologist, and professor. His work focuses on inhomogeneous cosmological models, the application of gravitational lensing to cosmology, the origin and cause of cosmic acceleration and the dark energy that goes along with it, testing general relativity at cosmological scales, and intrinsic alignment of galaxies. In 2005, Ishak-Boushaki and collaborators proposed a procedure to differentiate cosmic acceleration between dark energy and modifications to general relativity at cosmological scales. The theory was founded on the observation that the expansion and growth rates of large-scale structures in the universe are both impacted by cosmic acceleration. Given that they are predicated on the same fundamental theory of gravity, these two effects have to be consistent with one another. The publication was one of the first to: contrast dark energy versus modified gravity as the cause of cosmic acceleration and use inconsistencies between Lambda-CDM model cosmological parameters to test gravitational theory at cosmological scales.
