Did you know that the Seine River in Paris is the third-longest in France? It is 485 miles long and empties into the English Channel at Le Havre. Half of the water in the region around Paris is used both for industry and for human consumption. The fertile center of its basin in the Ile-de-France was where the monarchy expanded its nation-state. It has multiple UNESCO World Heritage Sites along the river (Le Havre, Palace and Park of Versailles, Chartres Cathedral, etc...) Despite Paris being known for its drainage system, in 1910, the city was on lockdown and the Seine rose to 8.62 meters (~28.3 ft.) and flooded the city.
