ARHS French Night 2025!
Did you know that the Citadelle Laferriere is the largest fortress in the Americas? It was built from 1805-1820 by Henri Christophe, one of the leaders of the Haitian Revolution, to protect Haiti from French invasion. Located at the top of a mountain on the northern coast of Haiti, it has walls 130 feet high and 10 feet thick. It’s also equipped with 365 cannons! In case of invasion, the people of Haiti could stay inside the fortress while the land around it was burned. Fortunately, no invasion occurred and the fortress is still very similar to its original condition. It is seen as a symbol of Haitian independence and was designated as a UNESCO world heritage site in 1982. Research by Maria Roof. Come to French Night at 6PM on January 15th to celebrate francophone culture with Live music by the ARHS Jazz band and our own cello artist Noah Ferris who was recently featured on NPR and much more & enjoy sumptuous Moroccan catering!
